It was the early 1940's when Joseph DeLora would have an idea that would
serve two
purposes. His idea was to build a room that could act as both a ``Bank Safe" fur vault and a bomb shelter that would protect the DeLora Family, friends and employees during the war years. He built a vault with
18" brick walls and 12" thick concrete ceiling and floor. Today this refrigerated vault is used for just one purpose, to accommodate our customers precious fur coats.
After returning home from the
Korean War, Joseph's eldest son Patrick DeLora Sr. took over the daily operations of DeLuxe Cleaners. Searching for a way to diversify the business he decides in 1955 to open DeLuxe Formal Wear. Today our Formal Wear Department
is considered one of the leading stores in Northern New Jersey. Dealing with both rentals and sales, our showroom has all the latest styles in formal wear.
Patrick, like his father, was never satisfied just
standing still, so in the 1960's he decided to open up our
Drapery Cleaning Department. DeLuxe Cleaners quickly became specialists in the taking down and rehanging of draperies and top treatments. Our special Adjust-A-Drape process guarantees a perfectly
finished drapery every time.
The 1970's were a very difficult time for the drycleaning industry, and many drycleaners went out of business. Patrick knew that to survive these difficult years he had to run an
efficient, quality operation. DeLuxe survived these hard times and Patrick learned many important lessons that he would later pass on to his own children.
After graduating from college in the 1980's two of
Patrick's five children decided to enter the family business. Patrick Jr. having a business degree and Linda having a marketing degree the two teamed up and brought many new ideas to the company.
It was in 1990 that they would introduce their first of many innovations...V.I.P. Pick-Up & Delivery.This convenient ``free" service allows customers to use DeLuxe without ever leaving their home. Our V.I.P. Service spans over three counties and has become an
invaluable service to our customers.In January 1996, DeLuxe's founder, Joseph DeLora Sr., passed away at the age of 94. In memory of their grandfather the third generation owners have
committed themselves to their family tradition of quality service established nearly 78 years ago.
